A less-than capacity field of 14 runners have been confirmed for a tilt at the 2014 Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm Racecourse this weekend, offering punters exceptional value and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.
Allocated the ideal barrier 4 for this weekend’s Group 2, Sacred Star has opened as and maintained favouritism in betting markets for success in the QTC Cup, currently offered at a quote of $4.
Claiming five wins and two places from just 16 competitive race starts to date, Sacred Star has arguably returned to racing in career-best form this time in; claiming three victories back-to-back first-up before finishing a fighting fifth in the Group 2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m) in his native New Zealand.
Continuing to build in form and class in finishing third in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) and an unlucky second to Viadana in the Group 1 NRM Sprint (1400m) most recently, trainer Tony Pike is confident the Flying Spur gelding will perform well in his maiden appearance across the ditch this weekend, and represents great value at current odds.
Interestingly, three horses currently share the second line of betting for success in the 2014 QTC Cup at a generous quote of $6.50; Hot Snitzel, Dances On Stars and Bennetta.
Returning to the track in great form this time in, Hot Snitzel was arguably the biggest winner of all leading contenders for the QTC Cup at Wednesday’s barrier draw; allocated the ideal gate 2.
Unlucky to finish second in the Group 2 Sebring Stakes (1200m) first-up on April 5th, the Snitzel gelding returned to the winner’s circle with a resounding victory in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) on April 26th.
While unable to handle the late pace of either of his two most recent appearances north of the border, Hot Snitzel is a noted performer in events throughout the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival; winning the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and claiming places in both the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) in 2011 as a two-year-old.
Stable mate Dances On Stars is yet to receive much more than a sprinkling of bets for the 2014 QTC Cup, but offers punters great value at current odds.
Claiming a total of four wins and seven places from 24 competitive starts to date, the gelding out of Starnet comfortably won the Listed Tatts Club Carrington Stakes (1100m) first-up on January 1st and has continued to build in form and experiences; winning the Listed P.M’s Cup (1300m) and finishing third amongst classy company in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) last time out.
Allocated the favourable barrier 3, Dances On Stars is more than a chance of success with in-form jockey Brenton Avdulla on board.
Confirmed for just her third start this preparation after finishing third in the Sebring Stakes and sixth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), Bennetta arguably offers punters the best value for money at $6.50 odds.
The winner of three starts and claiming minor places in a further three from a total of 14 competitive appearances, Bennetta’s chances of success in the QTC Cup took a huge boost on Wednesday, when allocated barrier 5 and confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
Also boasting odds of $2.50 just to run a place, Bennetta is more than worth a wager for an upset victory this weekend.
